About the London Saxophone Choir

Members of the audience occasionally question the use of the word “Choir” in our name – after all, we don’t sing. The word has been used more generally to describe the “Brass Choir” or “Woodwind Choir” of an orchestra, stressing the vocal qualities of these wind instruments and for many years there have been Clarinet Choirs consisting of many different sizes of these instruments. The term choir is possibly even more appropriate for a group of Saxophones, arguably the most vocal of all wind instruments.

We use most of the Saxophone family in our instrumentation: the four most common Saxes form the backbone of our group, Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Baritones, with the tiny Sopranino and the majestic Bass Sax extending the range of the ensemble. As Altos and Tenors are more numerous than the other Saxes, we often have two groups of each filling out the middle harmonies.

If you are interested in joining us, please go to the Contact Us section on this website; fill in the form and hit send.

We are looking for players of any kind of saxophone, particularly tenor and baritone players, and we are especially interested in hearing from players of the more exotic types of saxophone.
